Both the St. Olaf men's and women's indoor track and field teams have experienced doses of success this winter, which will prove vital in both team's preparation for the spring outdoor season.

This past weekend, both teams scored various individual wins at Tostrud's Border Battle. On the men's side, Tom Cruse '07 won the 600-meter dash, Dan Varley '10 the 800 and David Green '09 the 5000. Cullen O'Neill '09 added a second-place effort in the mile, as did Tim Drahn '‘09 in the 1000.

The team finished third overall.

The women picked up two individual wins with Andrea Gelle '07 in the 600 and Stacy Griffin '07 in the weight throw. In addition, Jenna Carlson '09 and Britney Schwager '07 were second and third in the 5000-meter run.

Midway through the indoor season, the men boast a win at the triangular meet involving Hamline and Carleton, while the women have a long list of individual wins, including Griffin's school record weight throw of 15.89 meters (52' 1 3/4") at the MSU-Mankato Open Jan. 13. Her throw qualified her for the NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

This Saturday, St. Olaf plays host to the Tostrud Classic on the men's side, while the women travel to the University of Minnesota for the Parent's Day Open.
