The St. Olaf wrestling team concluded its season on Saturday at the Great Lakes Regoinal Championship in Elmhurst, Ill., finishing 11th of 15 teams.

Steven Wood '07 finished second place in the 197 weight class and Tom Kopietz '08 (174) and Dan Rysavy '10 (141) finished fifth.

The match was the last for Wood and Jake Lambers ‘07.

“The last match for both Jake and I was very emotional,” Wood said. “We transferred with [head] coach [Sean Ahrar] and we've always had a special connection. He's a great coach and an even better person.”

Next season, Wood will occupy assistant coach duties under Ahrar, a position he is excited to accept.

“I like being a leader, so this year was really for me and I look forward to doing that next year,” Wood said.

St. Olaf finished the season with only two duel match victories. However, the season was plagued by injuries, as only five wrestlers were able to finish the year healthy. The Oles return eight freshman and two juniors for their 2007-2008 schedule.
