Mack Traynor '09 led the squad with a fifth-place finish, shooting an eight-over 152. Tucker Weisman '08 shot a 159 and Bror Herrick '09 a 161.
The team has "been steadily improving this year," Traynor said. He contends that this is the most talented team St. Olaf has had in a few seasons.
"We have a solid core group of players that play every week and all of which have good talent."
Last season the Oles tied for sixth in the MIAC, and returned most of their top golfers. They have also added several new players. The weekend tournament at St. John's gave the team an opportunity to play against top MIAC schools, as well as some strong Division II schools.
"We still have a lot of work to do to compete against the powerhouses in our conference, but we are making good progress," says Traynor.
Coach Glen Peterson is happy with the progress his team is making. "We now have the talent to compete and win with the best teams in our conference," said Peterson.
Next weekend, St. Olaf will co-host the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational held at two local courses.
The short fall season culminates with the MIAC Championships held Oct. 6-8.
The men's season resumes play in this spring.
