The 2002 St. Olaf men's rugby team is looking for its next victim after they started the season annihilating Macalester 31-0. The teams past two games have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Senior captain Dave Anderson said, We are really looking forward an outstanding year. We went 11-4 last year, and have an even better team this year. Anderson noted that the Oles are returning many of their key players last year, and have some new faces that will contribute to the Oles success this year. Anderson said, We have many of our good backs returning from last year. Mitch Diers, Blake Sipek, and Carl Mohns, will all have a big role this year, and new Ole football player Cordell Hunkins has joined us so we will be tough at back. Anderson also commented on how excited the team is to be practicing on campus, after a several-year hiatus. Anderson said, We really enjoy practicing on Manitou field, and the field is in pretty good shape.

Senior Chris Bolton said, We are having a blast right now. We have a great new coach, Asitha Sandanayake, an Economics professor here at Olaf. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the game, as well as a lot of fun too. We really enjoy practicing with him, because he knows when to joke around, and when to be serious. Mr. Bolton also said what his senior year of Rugby means to him, personally, and he said, Rugby is like life on the pitch. You have to hit it hard, because it comes and goes so fast.

Senior Courtney B&I Mosemann said, We have a great group of guys. We really get into the practices, and that carries into the games. I enjoy this just as much as Godfather's Pizza Buffet. The Oles have a tournament scheduled for April 20th at Mankato. They play in a four-team division including Carleton, Gustavus, and St. Marys. The sheer athleticism of these finely tuned athletes will be on display in ensuing Saturdays so come out and cheer them on!
