Tucker Weisman '08 paced the squad with consistent rounds of 78 and 79 to finish in a tie for 16th at the two-day tournament held last weekend. Weisman posted the Oles' best score in the fall MIAC Tournament, in which St. Olaf placed fourth for its best finish in years.
Four other golfers competed for St. Olaf in their first tournament of the spring, held at Centennial Oaks Country Club in Waverly, Iowa. Except for Weisman, the other top four athletes will return next season.
Bror Herrick '09 finished second for the Oles and tied for 26th overall, posting the team's best score of either day with an opening 77.
Mack Traynor '09 shot 83-78 to tie for 37th with teammate Christopher Conklin '11, who shot consistent rounds of 81 and 80. Another first year, Billy Utter '11, rounded up the team's scoring after tying for 46th with scores of 79 and 83.
All five Ole golfers finished within five shots of each other.
The tournament featured rival schools, the majority from around Minnesota and Iowa. They finished fourth among MIAC schools, close behind St. Thomas and Augsburg. Only 28 shots separated St. Olaf from victorious MIAC rival Gustavus.
Last weekend's event was the first of five tournaments for St. Olaf, scheduled across four spring weekends.
They compete next in the Bobby Krig Invitational hosted by Gustavus, to be held Monday and Tuesday at Le Sueur Country Club and The Ridges at Sand Creek.
The tournament at conference power Gustavus is one of the few not held over a weekend.
Besides their fourth-place finish at the MIACs, the Oles also placed in three tournaments in the fall.
