The St. Olaf men's golf team scrapped their way to a tie for seventh place with the Gustavus Adolphus Black team in this weekend's Saint John's Spring Invitational.

The par-71 course proved difficult for all the teams, as first place teams St. John's and St. Cloud tied at 5 over par with a score of 289. The Oles finished 13 strokes back with a team score of 302, 18 over par. Our neighbors across the river finished 15th of 16 with a score of 315, beating St. Mary's dismal score of 350.

Joe Daly and Joe Schoolmeesters of St. John's and Grant Shafranski of St. Thomas finished tied for first individually at one under par.

St. Olaf's Tucker Weisman '08 was part of a three way tie for fourth, just one stroke behind the leaders. Alec Roman of Carleton and Alex Woodhill of Gustavus Black completed the tie.

Christopher Conklin '11 posted the Oles' second-best round of the day, shooting a 2 over par 73.

Oles Andrew Peterson '10 and Mack Traynor '09 each finished the tournament with a score of 77, 6 over par.

Billy Utter '11 and Bror Herrick '09 shot 81 and 85 respectively.

The men will finish up their spring campaign with the St. Olaf Invitational May 3-4. The tournament starts at 11 a.m. and will take place at the Summit Golf Club in Cannon Falls.
