The top performer for the home team was Christina Roberts '08, who finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:02.32 to Rachel Smalley of MSU-Mankato. Casey Baustian '08 finished fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:04.76.
Kathryn Thompson '10 placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:06.66, making the MIAC honor roll at fourth. The first place position is currently held by St. Thomas's Katie Theisen at 1:04.64. Although Thompson is on the honor roll, it doesn't mean she'll be attending Nationals.
"After a hardship of stress fracture injuries early in the season, it feels good to be back running again and dropping my times on a weekly basis," Thompson said.
Heading into the MIAC Championships, Thompson said, "I am hoping to help my team by scoring as many points possible. I am also hoping for an amazing 4x400-meter relay and a personal best in the 400 hurdles."
At the meet, Amie Fillmore '10 placed third in the pole vault, vaulting at 3.51 meters, qualifying her provisionally for Nationals. She is now ranked second on the MIAC honor roll. First place is held by Shanna Dawson of Gustavus for her height of 3.72 meters.
Fillmore said that she used a carbon pole at the last meet instead of a fiberglass pole, and is planning on using that same pole at the MIAC Championship. She's hopeful that she'll get to go to Nationals, and teammates are excited to attend the meet because it will be held in Osh Kosh, Wis. With her current height of 11 feet 3 inches, Fillmore is doubtful that she'll attend Nationals, and is shooting for a height of 12 feet or higher.
To go to Nationals, Fillmore will need to vault at a height of 12 feet or 12 feet 3 inches. She is currently only provisionally qualified. Fillmore will have a chance to vault her goal of 12 feet or higher this weekend at the MIAC Championship and at the Last Chance meet in Lacrosse, Wis. The Last Chance meet gives athletes one last chance to qualify for Nationals. Fillmore said that Thompson and Allison Millis '11 will probably be attempting to qualify for Nationals at the Last Chance meet as well. Last weekend's meet was unscored.
The next meet for the women's team will be the MIAC Championships Friday and Saturday at Macalester College.
