The informally named "ring road," which has been planned since 1997, will eliminate much of the pedestrian and vehicle conflict in the area in front of Old Main, which is the most intensively scheduled building for classes.
"We want to move parking out of the academic zones and emphasize [these zones] as pedestrian zones," said Director of Facilities Pete Sandberg.
The available parking spaces will increase from 110 to 152 as a result of the construction, Sandberg explained. The construction of the ring road, which will begin in June, will eventually aid in the construction of the Science Complex.
