An expensive cycad plant did sustain damage during the hailstorm on Friday Aug. 25, but the plant’s estimated worth is a few hundred dollars – not $15,000 – according to Professor of Biology Charles Umbanhower.

The 30-year-old cycad suffered cosmetic damage only, and will be fixed when the new fronds grow in. The cycad plant is a type of gymnosperm, and it resembles a palm or tree fern.
