Rumor Has It: The Homecoming theme was chosen because of Steve Irwin's death

Many students thought that this year’s Australian Homecoming theme, “Oles Down Under,” was chosen after the recent death of conservationist and animal enthusiast Steve Irwin.

This rumor is false.

Members of the Student Activities Committee and the organizers of Ole Traditions chose the theme last spring and have been preparing for this week’s events for months. Irwin’s death was in no way related to the choice of an Australian theme.

Members of SAC do not want anyone to think that the theme was meant to belittle Irwin’s work.

“We don’t want people to think that we’re mocking him,” SAC Coordinator Nicole Strenglis ‘07 said.
