Team captain Andrea Gelle '07 said the team had a few main goals entering Saturday's competition.
"We approached the meet as a time trial or tough workout rather than an intense competition," Gelle said. It was the first meet after a week without practice due to spring break.
Amie Fillmore '10 provided St. Olaf's lone victory, pacing the field in the pole vault with a jump of 10-11 3/4 inches. Gelle took second in the 1,500-meter run and third in the 800 for the Oles, who finished behind St. Thomas and host Carleton at the three-team invitational.
"I am excited to finish my career on a high note," said Gelle about her the outlook for her senior season. "With only four meets left, I'm not going to hold back."
Other notable performances came from distance runner Britt Schwager '07 in the 3,000 and high jumper Katja Andresen '08, both earning second place finishes.
Gelle was upbeat about her team's prospects for 2007.
"There's no question that we are underdogs, but I think it's the best position for our team," said Gelle about the Oles' chances of improving upon their indoor season. "We have a lot of big-meet performers waiting to let loose when it counts. Anything can happen."
