The St. Olaf women’'s tennis team defeated Hamline 5-4 Friday afternoon before losing to fourth-place St. Thomas 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The loss dropped the Oles'’ record to 3-4 in the conference, a minor setback in their quest to finish in the top half of a competitive MIAC.

Friday’'s win was a come-from-behind effort, as the Hammies claimed two doubles matches from St. Olaf. However, the singles lineup rebounded impressively, winning convincingly down the stretch. Kristina Poplavska ‘'09, Sarah Carlson ‘'10 and Aimiee Ny ‘'10 defeated their opponents in straight sets, while Ellen Goerss '‘09 delivered a thrilling three-set victory to seal the deal for St. Olaf.

Wednesday, the Ole women couldn'’t manage a single victory against a surprisingly tough Tommie squad.

Next up for the Oles is a road trip to Winona on Saturday to face St. Mary'’s and a final regular season road match against Gustavus on Monday. Following these matches, the Oles will host, for the second year running, the MIAC Tournament April 27 and 28.
